A walk with a policeman
So on Sunday I went on a short walk around Bollington with a policeman.
You will hear me at length talking about how what your children wear makes a huge difference to a photo. But in true documentary photography dictates that as with news documentary photography you don't interefere with your subjects and you don't change the scene in anyway. So when Kit wanted to wear his new costume for most of the day who was I to argue?
Documentary photography means treading lightly and influencing nothing. In practical terms that means a lot more running around for me to getting the angle I want. Documentary is harder than it looks, and good exercise. But I love it with my children because of the authentic and emotional feel that it brings. I feel like these images really capture a time that I will only recognise the significance when they are fully grown.
